As the Washington Commanders and New York Giants traded statements in their battle for NFC East bragging rights, Austin Ekeler discovered a great equalizer through a concept known most affectionately in the South: the “Texas route.” Still safely described as a nightmare when matched up one-on-one against a linebacker, Ekeler showcased his multifaceted ability, losing a defender with one subtle change of direction before speeding through traffic for a 16-yard gain. Ekeler, who moved into the NFL history’s top 25 in receiving yards among tailbacks on Sept. 15, 2024, used a do-it-all effort to transform 11 touches into 85 yards, keying a 21-18 victory in the process.
