On the expansive list of things that can either go right or wrong on a designed screen pass, Ji’Ayir Brown used his instincts and play recognition skills to introduce Week 3’s opponent to one of its most troublesome possibilities. First making his name as one of San Francisco’s key special team contributors, Brown trusted that physicality, diagnosing the Patriots’ screen pass from a mile away before blowing the play up with a big-time hit. Brown’s fingerprint was found throughout the 49ers’ 30-13 victory over New England on Sept. 29, 2024, as the second-year safety tallied eight tackles (five solo), two tackles for a loss, one pass defended, and just 10 yards allowed (on six targets).
