As the 2011 Saints’ second-ranked passing attack attempted 63 passes during Jan. 14, 2012’s Divisional Round battle against the 49ers, one takeaway could be all but guaranteed: a soon-to-be-memorable box score for Marques Colston. Steady, and settled into the heart of his prime, New Orleans’ 6-foot-4 pass-catcher supplied a much-needed jolt during a comeback attempt, winning against press man-to-man coverage before elevating to collect a 25-yard sideline score. A touchdown in the game’s final 10 seconds helped the San Francisco 49ers survive for a 36-32 win, but Colston was excellent nonetheless, recording nine catches (on a dozen targets) alongside 136 yards and a touchdown.
