In a league where rookies are often afforded a few weeks’ time before reasonable evaluations begin, Eddie George was already hard at work, breaking off career-long runs and getting acclimated with the end zone. Dressed to impress in the Houston Oilers’ powder-blue uniforms during Year One, the eventually-named Rookie of the Year provided immediate impact, breaking tackles and zipping past Jaguars defenders for a 76-yard sprint on Sept. 8, 1996. It’s rare for a generationally-great tailback to produce his longest carry in game No. 2 of a 141-game career, but in George’s case, complaints were minimal, as he enjoyed an 18-touch, 151-yard, one-touchdown performance in the 34-27 win over Jacksonville.
