Middle-of-the-field plays simply weren’t worth the trouble when opposing teams made stops through Chicago, and most often, it had to do with one player: Brian Urlacher. The opportunity at a second Super Bowl appearance in five years hung in the balance during Jan. 23, 2011’s NFC Championship Game, and Urlacher performed like someone who knew it, halting the rival Packers’ plans with an out-of-nowhere pick, and a near-touchdown return. The play proved fitting, as the Bears’ elite defense needed only a break or two here or there, but a late-game comeback over Green Bay wasn’t meant to be. Superb nonetheless in the hard-fought 21-14 loss, Urlacher commanded the middle through a 10-tackle, one-sack showing, alongside two TFLs and the 39-yard takeaway.
