After a mishandled kickoff return resulted in the Bengals offense starting their day on their own 4-yard line, Cincinnati lined up in an I-formation looking to start the long journey of getting out of their own end and into a position where they could open the game with a score. Running back Corey Dillon, however, had other plans. Taking a delayed handoff right up the gut, Dillon broke one tackle, cut slightly to the left, found a seam, and took off. Within a second, he was alone, sprinting down the field with nothing but open space in front of him as two Detroit defenders followed closely behind. Showing off his impressive speed, Dillon went untouched the rest of the way for a career-long, 96-yard score on the game's first play from scrimmage, kicking off a day that would see him tally 202 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns. Cincinnati would go on to beat the Lions in this one, 31-27, on Oct. 28, 2001.
